Discussions started more than 14 years ago, when Deutz was looking to enhance its “air cooled” engine range in order to sell them to the Automotive market.

When Deutz was developing the medium-duty engine model TCD 2013 as a joint collaboration with the Volvo Group, the company looked to Jacobs as the Engine Retarder experts to develop a brake for the for the group. The result is the Jacobs Model 2400 Bleeder Brake, released in 2005.

During this development, Jacobs also worked with Deutz to provide a solution for emission regulations for the off-highway engine. The solution was a controlled Internal EGR system. The Jacobs model 2420, is an on/off valve actuation device which helps control the engine emissions.

Our Story

Although the Jacobs Engine Brake has been on the market since 1961, the need for it was terrifyingly demonstrated to its inventor Clessie L. Cummins, some thirty years earlier.
